BlackBerry Curve 8520 Unboxing & First Impressions

Over two weeks ago I posted an article on the BlackBerry Curve 8520.  Now that I've had it for awhile now, I figured it would be a good time to put up my unboxing and first impressions video. Hopefully these videos will help you if you don't know if this is the phone for you.

Unboxing: Apple Wireless Keyboard

Keyboards don't get that much love in the technology world. We use them all the time, but never pay them any mind. With that said, I decided to finally pick up the Apple Wireless Keyboard. I tried picking up this keyboard about two months ago from numerous stores, but didn't have any luck due to a shortage. I thought it was due to the fact that the new iMacs now came with one keyboard and mouse. The true reason was because Apple updated the keyboard (V2.0). I haven't really done any research on the changes between both versions of the keyboard, but it probably has something to do with the range of the keyboard.

Technizmo 1/1/2010

Technizmo has been inactive these past months, but we plan to make a comeback in 2010. Our main issue as of now is keeping our content new and at a steady pace. We're working on how to get around this, but we are still going strong in some areas. One big thing to look out for in 2010 will be Technizmo Live. TL (Technizmo Live) will be a weekly podcast that covers the same technology that we cover on our site. If you find yourself not having much time to read all our articles, the podcast is the thing for you.

From Pearl to Curve

I've had my BlackBerry Pearl for about two years now. The previous phone I used before my BlackBerry Pearl was the Razr. I was totally amazed with all that the Pearl could do compared to the Razr, but months later I started wanting more from the phone. The standard internet browser on the Pearl is horrible beyond belief. The phone is often laggy and freezes numerous times a day. The thing that bothers me the most about the phone is that it actually can not receive some text messages! The phone will vibrate as if you have a new text message, but wont actually show the message. The only way I've found out how to cope with this issue is to take the battery out and let the phone reboot.

I'm the type of guy who loves mostly everything about Apple. With that said, I wont be upgrading to the iPhone for a few reasons. The first reason is that it would take $200 per phone to start on at&t. Secondly, at&t overall sucks. T-mobile I think has served my needs better than at&t in the past. Also, I bet Apple will end up launching a new iPhone in the coming months, and I hate to be one generation back on technology.

Windows 7 surpasses Mac OS X install base

No surprise here. Windows 7 has officially surpassed Mac OS X's user install base, just one short month after launch. This was bound to happen eventually, as there are just more PCs out there than Macs. I'd be interested to see the number of people upgrading to Win7, compared to the number of new PC buyers.

REVIEW: Far Cry 2

Ubisoft
Open World FPS
Players: 1 - 16
October 21, 2008
PC, PS3, X360

When I started up Far Cry 2, I expected to get one of these kinda recently popular open world FPSs. And for the most part, that is absolutely true. This is, by all means, a standard shooter; you'll be shooting dudes in the face, and than talking to some dudes. But what Far Cry 2 did with story and characters, no game I have ever played comes close.

At the beginning screen, you get to choose one of 12 playable characters. There are no classes to speak of; these are merely skins. You are then plunged into the world of an unnamed African country, going through a civil war. You are a mercenary, and your job is straight forward: kill The Jackal, an arms-dealer that armed both of the warring factions (the APR and the UFLL). Soon after you arrive at the hotel, your character contracts malaria. You wake up in the hotel, The Jackal himself reading your mission objectives back to you, and leaving, while you fall unconscious again. When you wake up again, the streets are filled with the sound of gunshots; your only option is to escape.

Is there something high-def cooking over at Nintendo?

Normally, I wouldn't buy into these kinds of rumors. But there is more proof than ever now that an HD version of the Wii may be releasing next year.

Yesterday, a story was posted on one of my favourite sites, GoNintendo, concerning a rumor that the Wii HD or Wii 2 would be released near the middle of next year (Q3), and that it would support 1080P games and movies through a Blu-ray drive. This all sounds a little too-good-to-be-true to those of us that know the ways of Nintendo, but it seems that lately their ways are changing. So let's analyze this rumor logically.

Nintendo DSi XL coming to North America Q1 2010!

Damn it, now I have another DS to buy! Nintendo of America has confirmed that the Nintendo DSi XL will be released in North America in the first quarter of 2010.

"A new iteration of the Nintendo DSi™ system will be introduced in Japan on November 21, 2009. To be known as Nintendo DSi LL in Japan, and as Nintendo DSi XL in North America and Europe, it will offer a screen 93% larger than the current Nintendo DS Lite with a better view angle, an additional longer touch screen stylus, and preinstalled Nintendo DSiWare™ software. The new version will arrive in North America and Europe in the first quarter of calendar year 2010." - Nintendo spokesperson

So there you go! And yes, I will be trading in my current DSi for the DSi XL. I can't help myself!
